Flemish school. 16th century. Roland de Moys Circle (Bruxelles, 1515 - Zaragoza, 1592) "Madonna and Child" Oil on panel. 100 x 64cm. This painting is comparable to the Madonna and Child by Roland de Moys dated circa 1570, which is kept in the Museo de Navarra and possibly made in Pablo Scheppers', Zaragoza workshop, a painter with whom Moys collaborated. In the painting at the Museo de Navarra Moys draws on the Madonna and Child by Guillaume Benson, painted circa 1545-1555, which is preserved in the Museo de Zaragoza, and which, as Francisco Javier Zubiaur Carreño indicates in his article “La Virgen con el Niño de Roland de Moys” (The Madonna and Child by Roland de Moys): “it could be the painting brought from Flanders by the Duke of Villahermosa, Martín de Gurrea y Aragón, in 1559, for his private chapel in his palace in Zaragoza”.
