Our painting situates the Adoration of the Kings in Flanders, perhaps Bruges?  It is a painting that captures the upper class in their daily environment or setting with great realism - cathedral, main square, palace... as kings who are also going to worship.  The painting, in addition to reflecting religious fervour, shows a space that reflects the elite - its wealth, its privileged social status. Meticulous and detailed, the painter captures the material beauty of things and their surroundings. The composition is harmonious, distributing the figures of the wealthy and dignitaries evenly, and at the same level and plane as the Kings of the East.  A painting to be hung in a visible place and say: "we were there, we were among the guests"
