Mwembia, born in Elisabethville in 1939, was an acclaimed artist who studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts d’Elisabethville. In 1955-56, he participated in a European tour showcasing his work in various cities, including Liège and Brussels. He contributed to the decoration of the Belgian Congo and Ruanda-Urundi pavilion at the 1958 Universal Exhibition in Brussels and earned a diploma from the Academy. Known for his versatility, Mwembia transitioned between decorative styles, humorous figures, and abstract compositions.
