A Roman marble fragment of sarcophagus relief with Bacchus. 2nd -3rd century A.D. Carved in high relief, this corner fragment preserves the upper part of a sarcophagus chest, surmounted by its projecting cornice. It depicts a youthful deity, half-reclining, with bared torso and a fold of drapery drawn in soft folds across the lower body. The head, slightly inclined and turned to its left, presents a chubby face with full cheeks and a rounded chin, framed by abundant curly hair whose locks fall to the nape — a physiognomic type characteristic of representations of the young Bacchus.
