Authentische Arbeiten Johann Wolfgang von Goethes sind und waren auf dem internationalen Kunstmarkt außerordentlich selten. Ein Aquarell von seiner Hand, noch dazu mit eigenhändiger Beschreibung der dargestellten Landschaft und darüber hinaus einer Bestätigung Alexander von Humboldts (ein Autograph im besten Sinne), darf man zweifellos eine Rarität nennen. Als die Großmutter der heutigen Eigentümerin das Blatt 1957 in Weimar vorstellte, nahm es Gerhard Fremmel in das eben begonnene Werkverzeichnis (den sogenannten "Corpus der Goethezeichnungen") erfreut und begeistert auf. Schon damals gab es keinerlei Zweifel an der Authentizität des Aquarells. A watercolour by his hand, no less with a personal description of the landscape portrayed, and even a certification by Alexander von Humboldt (a true autograph in the best sense of the word), can certainly be considered a rarity. When the current owner's grandmother presented the sheet in Weimar in 1957, Gerhard Fremmel enthusiastically added it to the catalogue raisonné he had just set about (the so-called 'Corpus der Goethezeichnungen' - corpus of Goethe drawings). Even then, the work's authenticity was beyond any doubt. Upon careful inspection of the original, Margarete Oppel, curator of the Collection of Graphic Prints of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, wrote the following comment.
