Auf drei Sockelplateaus vollplastische Amorettengruppen als Allegorien auf Handwerk und Technik; die zentrale Gruppe umgeben von vier Adlern mit ausgebreiteten Schwingen. Das Vorbild für unseren prunkvollen Tafelaufsatz ließ der französische Chemiker Henri St. Clair Deville 1858 bei Christofle als Geschenk für Kaiser Napoleon III. in Aluminium und Gold fertigen, nachdem er 1854 ein technisches Verfahren zur Gewinnung des Aluminium entwickelt hatte. To the centre two plinths supporting groups of putti as allegories of craft and technology, the central group surrounded by four eagles with outstretched wings. The two opposite oval reserves vacant. This opulent centrepiece was based on an identical piece which the French Chemist Henri St. Clair Deville commissioned from Christofle to be made in aluminium and gold in 1858 as a present for Emperor Napoleon III after developing a chemical process for the production of aluminium.
