The painting offered here at auction is a typical work by the landscape painter Jan van Goyen, born in Leiden, which was produced circa 1628. By this time van Goyen had detached himself from the influence of his teacher Esaias van de Velde (1587–1630) and had forged his own style with his ‘atmospheric’ landscapes. In doing so, he exchanged the more colourful palette of his early works for a monochrome rendition of the Dutch landscape in browns, greys and greens. The panel offered here is characteristic of this phase and features a simplified, but very effective diagonal compositional scheme. The work was executed entirely using a swift wet-in-wet painting technique, which was typical of this artist. Van Goyen was one of the most important landscape painters of the early 17th century in Holland and made a significant contribution to the popularisation of Dutch landscapes. Das hier angebotene Gemälde ist ein charakteristisches Werk des in Leiden geborenen Landschaftsmalers Jan van Goyen, das um 1628 entstanden ist. Zu dieser Zeit hatte sich van Goyen vom Einfluss seines Lehrers Esaias van de Velde (1587–1630) gelöst und seinen eigenen Stil mit den "atmosphärischen" Landschaften geprägt. Dabei tauschte er die farbigere Palette seiner frühen Werke gegen eine monochrome Wiedergabe der niederländischen Landschaft in Braun, Grau und Grün. Die hier angebotene Tafel ist repräsentativ für diese Phase und zeichnet sich durch ein vereinfachtes, aber sehr wirkungsvolles diagonales Kompositionsschema aus. Das Gemälde ist vollständig in einer schnellen, für den Meister typischen "Nass-in-Nass"-Maltechnik ausgeführt. Van Goyen war einer der bedeutendsten Landschaftsmaler des frühen 17. Jahrhunderts in Holland und hat wesentlich dazu beigetragen, die holländische Landschaft zu popularisieren. Dr. Christiaan Vogelaar bestätigt die Eigenhändigkeit dieses Gemäldes anhand einer Fotografie, wofür wir ihm danken und bezeichnet es als ein besonders exquisites Beispiel für das Schaffen Jan van Goyens.
