Les sujets sont libérés de toute pesanteur et prennent place dans ces compositions aériennes, voire célestes, qui bouleversent le paysage artistique de l'époque. Joan Miró travaille à la suppression de toute structure logique de récit ainsi qu'à une certaine incohérence visuelle. De la peinture, il dit : “Mon unique certitude est que je veux détruire, détruire tout ce qui existe en peinture. J'éprouve un profond mépris pour la peinture, seul l'esprit pur m'intéresse”.1 Dès l'origine Miró se veut “l'assassin de la peinture” et cette ambition va le guider tout au long de son œuvre. Il base sa peinture sur la recherche de la simplification de l'expression picturale. Son style lui permet d'être accueilli et adopté par tous les Surréalistes dès sa première exposition parisienne à la Galerie Pierre en 1926. Il utilise les codes du primitivisme avant de partir à la recherche d'une expression originelle et combine les différents langages plastiques en associant des techniques de création comme le collage, le grattage et l'insertion de matériaux divers. Dans sa recherche de stylisation simplifiée des formes et des surfaces, il en arrive à ne plus utiliser qu'un fond monochrome et symbolique : le bleu du ciel et de l'eau ou la toile brute pour la terre. Il sera aussi en cela le précurseur et l'inspirateur du Minimalisme et du Monochromatisme dont tous les artistes les plus importants du XXe siècle se réclament. Miró met donc en place un véritable travail autour de l'intériorité spirituelle, de l'accomplissement de soi et s'oriente vers une abstraction lyrique. Il développe cette liberté absolue qui le caractérise en déviant les travers d'un enfermement possible dans les carcans cubistes ou surréalistes de l'époque. Sa liberté et cette individualité propre le mèneront au rang des plus grands artistes de ce siècle. Très proche d'André Breton, ce dernier dit de lui “il est le plus surréaliste d'entre nous”.2 “Quand je peins, je caresse ce que je fais, et l'effort de lui rendre une vie communicative me fatigue énormément. Parfois, au bout de mes séances de travail, je me laisse tomber dans un fauteuil, épuisé comme après l'acte sexuel de faire l'amour !”3 The years 1924 to 1927 represent the richest pictorial period of Joan Miró who at this time established the basis of his artistic language through graphic signs and monochrome backgrounds. Liberating his subjects of all earthly weight, they are affixed in his celestial, even intergalactic compositions that disrupted and dismantled the artistic landscape of the time. Miró's work was focused on the destruction of all logical structure as well as on the creation of a certain visual incoherence. In response to the painting of the time, he declared: “My only certainty is that I want to destroy all that exists in painting. I feel a deep and utter scorn for painting, only the pure spirit interests me.” 1 From the beginning, Miró wanted to be “the assassin of painting” and this ambition would guide him throughout the creation of his oeuvre. He based his painting on the search for the simplification of pictorial expression. Through his style, he was embraced and adopted by the Surrealists from his first exhibition in Paris at the Galerie Pierre in 1926. He used the codes of Primitivism before embarking on the search for an original expression, in which he combined different plastic languages in associating various techniques like collage, grattage and the insertion of diverse materials. Later, in his search for a simplified stylization of shapes and surfaces, he could no longer use only the symbolic monochrome background, characterized by the blues for the sky and water and the bare canvas for the earth. Through this style, he would serve as the precursor of and inspiration to Minimalism and Monochromatism, two movements that were integral to the works of the most significant artists of the 20th century. Miró committed himself to a study on internal spirituality and achieving inner peace, orienting his work toward a certain lyrical abstraction. He thereby developed this sense of absolute liberty that distinguished Miró as transcending any categorization as an artist, his work diverging from the constraints of the fashionable cubist and surrealist styles of the time. It is precisely this liberty and this individuality that characterized Miró as one of the greatest artists of the century. André Breton, a very good friend of Miró's claimed, “Of our entire group, Miró is the most surrealist of anyone”.2 “When I paint, I caress what I have created and the effort to instill it with a communicative life is extremely tiring.
