Julius Helfft war ein Schüler von Wilhelm Schirmer an der Berliner Akademie der Künste. Im Verlauf seiner ersten Italienreise von 1843 bis 1847 besuchte er u.a. Florenz, Rom, Neapel und Genua. Unsere ein Jahr nach seiner Rückkehr entstandene, stimmungsvolle Vedute zeigt die Loggia einer italienischen Villa, die der alten Beschriftung auf dem Keilrahmen zufolge wohl in Frascati zu verorten ist. Julius Helfft was a pupil of Wilhelm Schirmer at the Berlin Academy. During his first trip to Italy from 1843 - 1847 he visited Florence, Rome, Naples, and Genoa. He painted this atmospheric view of the Loggia of an Italian villa one year after his return from Italy. According to the inscription on the stretcher, the work depicts a view of Frascati.
