Willem Koekkoek belongs to the third generation of the painter family Koekkoek and specialized against his father and teacher, the marine painter Hermanus sen., on figur-filled city views. His works mostly creates a connection between fiction and realisim (architecture), which obtains anecdotic charachter due to the human activities. Insofar Koekkoek's art is more coherent to the romantic outlook which is orientated along the Dutch Golden Age.
