Diese charmante Momentaufnahme ist eine typische Darstellung im Oeuvre Villas. Sie zeigt eine junge Frau in einem elegant gestreiften Seidenkleid mit feinem Blütendekor und Spitzenbesatz, die im hochgesteckten Haar eine grüne Seidenschleife trägt. Auf einem klassizistischen Stuhl, vor einer fein tapezierten und vertäfelten Wand im Salon sitzend, hebt sie anmutig ihren linken Arm empor und betrachtet den darauf sitzenden Gelbbrustara. Auf ihrem Schoß balanciert sie einen Dessertteller mit Orangenstücken, welche sie scheinbar gemeinsam mit einem Stück Zucker in ihrer rechten Hand an ihren gefiederten Freund verfüttert. Andächtig und fasziniert betrachtet die junge Frau das exotische Tier. In Montpellier geboren, studiert Louis Émile Villa bei dem Salonmaler Charles Gleyre an der École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, welcher auch der erste Lehrmeister von Renoir, Bazille, Sisley und kurzweilig auch Monet ist. It depicts a young woman in an elegant striped silk dress with fine floral décor and lace trimmings, her hair tied back with a green silk ribbon. She sits in a Neoclassical chair in a salon with tasteful wallpaper and panelling, gracefully lifting her arm to observe the perching macaw. She balances a dessert bowl filled with orange slices in her lap, which she appears to be feeding to her feathered friend along with sugar cubes. The young woman observes the exotic bird with wonder and fascination. Louis Émile Villa was born in Montpellier and studied under Charles Gleyre at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Gleyre was also the first teacher of Renoir, Bazille, Sisley, and for a short time also Monet.
