Zwischen den beiden gegensätzlichen Künstlerpersönlichkeiten entwickelte sich schon bald eine enge Freundschaft. Mehrfach arbeiteten die Künstler zusammen, eines der frühesten Beispiele ist das Happening „24 Stunden“ 1965 in Wuppertal, eines der letzten die Konzert-Aktion „Joseph Beuys, Coyote III, Nam June Paik, Piano Duett“ 1984 in Tokio. „Beuys vox“ umfasst zeitlich die gesamte Dauer der Künstlerfreundschaft zwischen Nam June Paik und Joseph Beuys, die mit Beuys' Tod 1986 ihr Ende fand. Die 21 Arbeiten des Multiples haben zum einen gemeinsame Aktionen der beiden Künstler zum Thema; so ist beispielsweise das „Piano duet by J. Beuys and N.J. Paik in memoriam George Maciunas“ von 1978 in zehn Photographien präsent. Zum anderen handelt es sich um von Paik gefertigte Objekte, die charakteristische Motive aus Beuys' Oeuvre aufgreifen, wie etwa die Zementplastik „Beuys hat“ von 1988. Eine dritte Kategorie beruht auf Dokumentationen von Werken Joseph Beuys'; so etwa das Videoband, das seine berühmte „Schmerzraum“-Installation bei Konrad Fischer in Düsseldorf 1984 festhält. The artists collaborated many times; one of the first was the Happening '24 Stunden' in Wuppertal in 1965, and one of the last took place in Tokyo in 1984, 'Joseph Beuys, Coyote III, Nam June Paik, Piano Duett'. 'Beuys vox' covers the complete duration of the artistic-friendship between Nam June Paik and Joseph Beuys, ending with Beuys' death in 1986. The 21 multiple works include joint actions from the artists, such as 'Piano duet by J. Beuys and N.J. Paik in memorium George Maciunas' from 1978 in ten photographs. It also deals with objects made by Paik which pick up on characteristic motifs from Beuys' oeuvre such as the cement sculpture 'Beuys hat' from 1988. A third category touches on the documentation of Joseph Beuys' work, such as the video tape of his famous 'Schmerzraum' installation at Konrad Fischer in Düsseldorf in 1984.
