En 1918, elle s'installe en effet définitivement à Paris avec son mari, l'artiste Mikhaïl Larionov. Le couple s'intègre aisément au milieu artistique parisien, essentiellement grâce à leur succès commun lors de la création des décors et costumes des Ballets russes de Diaghilev. Ces deux toiles sont marquées par l'influence du Purisme, mouvement né après la guerre dans le but de réordonner la vie sociale et politique de L'Europe. Ses principales préoccupations esthétiques et idéologiques sont la précision, la simplicité et l'harmonie. Ce mouvement pousse également ses membres à étudier plus attentivement la forme des objets. Les bouquets de fleurs de Goncharova atteignent donc harmonie et précision par leur composition subtile dans laquelle l'influence de Cézanne apparaît comme évidente. Cet artiste était admiré du groupe Puriste pour avoir initié un style de peinture français. Cependant, l'intérêt de Goncharova pour Cézanne n'était pas nouveau. Dès 1903, elle avait pu voir des oeuvres à Moscou lors d'expositions privées chez les collectionneurs Ivan Morozov et Serguei Shchukin. Peut-être nos deux toiles sont elles donc un hommage de Natalia Goncharova au père de l'art moderne durant son immersion dans la culture française. In 1918, Goncharova moved permanently to Paris with her longtime companion, husband and fellow artist, Mikhaïl Larionov. The couple integrated effortlessly into the Parisian artistic scene, most likely due to the great success they shared while designing the costumes and sets for impresario Sergei Diaghilev's Russian Ballets. These two works characterize the influence of Purism on the artist, a movement that was born from a call to order of the social and political life in Europe following the war. The main aesthetic and ideological tenets of Purism were precision, simplicity, and harmony. The movement furthermore encouraged its adherents to study the forms of objects more closely. Goncharova's bouquets of flowers attain this harmony and precision and above all portray the unmistakable influence of Cézanne, who was admired by the Purist group for having founded a “French tradition of painting”. However, Goncharova's appreciation of Cézanne was not newly developed; works by the artist had been exhibited to the public as early as 1903 in Gontcharova's native Moscow in the private homes of the preeminent collectors Ivan Morozov and Sergei Shchukin. Perhaps we can therefore consider these works to be a sort of homage to the father of modern art aptly created during the period of Goncharova's immersion into the French lifestyle and culture.
