He creates metaphysical and symbolic pictorial worlds, based on rural architectural subjects. In the Mid-30s, he starts with a series of images, which he describes as ‘Dunstlöcher-Malerei’. These surreal images illustrate painted holes or sections, which allow the view into an imagined space behind that image. Condition: The painting is in good condition. Scattered retouching, primarily in the margins visible under UV-light. Faint abrasions in the upper right margin. Otherwise overall of good impression. The image dimensions are 91.5 x 99 cm, the frame dimensions 94.5 x 102 cm. Herbert Bayer (1900-1985) Herbert Bayer (1900-1985) was an Austrian photographer, graphic designer and painter and a teacher at the Bauhaus Dessau. After his training in Applied Arts and Crafts he attended the Bauhaus Weimar in 1921. He studied under Johannes Itten and Paul Klee before he changed to Wassiliy Kandinsky's mural art workshop. After his final examination in 1925, Bayer was appointed director of printing and advertising at Bauhaus Dessau. All the prints designed for the Bauhaus requirements went through his hands and were exclusively realized after his own and his students's design. Thus, a uniform design was guaranteed and the outline of graphic designers was shaped. Bayer is particularly famous for his photography and photo compositions from the Bauhaus time, which still highly traded classics of modern photography.
