Lot 337
Rare French Gilded Wooden Мarriage Box with Heraldic and Pictorial Decoration, 16th Century. An exceptional French Renaissance box, dating to the 16th century. Crafted from wood, the surface is richly adorned with polychrome painting and detailed gilt relief work. The front panel features a vivid central scene rendered in miniature a ecclesiastical ceremony, flanked by two finely executed heraldic shields enclosed within circular cartouches, representing noble families of the period. This piece exemplifies the luxurious decorative arts of the French aristocracy and was a commissioned object for storing a wedding gift. The reverse bears traces of an old collection label, suggesting historical provenance. Minor wear consistent with age (see photo); colors and gilding remain strong and vibrant. A museum-quality object that would enhance any serious collection of European decorative arts. Size 35x11 cm.
