L'authenticité de l'œuvre a été confirmée par Madame Fromanger. Rembrandt Bugatti, est un artiste talentueux, au prénom prédestiné, mort en pleine gloire à l'âge de 31 ans. Sa vocation est fortement influencée et ses rencontres avec de nombreux artistes tels que les sculpteurs Ercole Rosa et Paul Troubetskoï, le compositeur Puccini et le dessinateur Giovanni Segantini. Son talent se dévoile au grand jour lorsqu'un visiteur découvre dans l'atelier de son frère, Carlo Bugatti, la première sculpture fait par le jeune Rembrandt, représentant trois vaches conduites par un paysan. L'artiste s'intéresse aux animaux, il les connaît par cœur, passant des heures entières au Jardin d'Acclimatation et au Jardin des Plantes à Paris. Bugatti connaît bien ses modèles et représente chacun d'entre eux avec leurs propres traits et leur physionomie particulière. Notre sculpture représente un couple d'éléphants, leurs trompes enlacées. L'artiste va produire toute une série de sculptures représentant des éléphants, en couple ou seul, un thème très cher à Bugatti. Il expose pour la première fois à 18 ans à la Biennale d'Art de Venise. En 1904, le jeune Bugatti rencontre Adrien-Aurélien Hébrard ; propriétaire de la célèbre Fonderie d'Art et d'une galerie au 8 rue Royale à Paris. Ce dernier lui fait signer un contrat d'exclusivité et l'artiste produit alors toute une série d'animaux pris sur le vif aux zoos de Paris et surtout d'Anvers qu'il exposera quelque temps après dans les locaux parisiens de son ami fondeur. The talented Rembrandt Bugatti died at the age of 31 at the height of his career.
