Kein anderes seiner Storm-at-Sea Bilder ist ähnlich detailliert gemalt und in der Darstellung des Wassers ähnlich gut gelungen. Die bereits 1840 von zeitgenössischen Kritikern gefällten, positiven Urteile haben bis heute ihre Gültigkeit bewahrt. Die Raden Saleh Forschung kennt keinen zweiten Seesturm von ähnlicher Bedeutung und es ist nicht sehr wahrscheinlich, dass in ansehbarer Zeit ein vergleichbarer Seesturm von Raden Saleh am Kunstmarkt erscheinen wird." The painting Ships on a stormy sea, 88 x 116 cm, by Raden Saleh, which is being offered by the auction house Van Ham, is the largest and best Storm at sea from his hand which we know of. None of his other storm at sea paintings is done with the same attention to detail and is similarly successful in the depiction of the water. The positive judgements which contemporary critics cast as early as 1840 stand to this day. Raden Saleh research does not know of a second storm at sea painting of equal significance, and it is not very likely that a comparable sea storm by Raden Saleh will appear on the art market in the foreseeable future."
