SARCOPHAGE, BOIS BITUMÉ ET PIGMENTS POLYCHROMES, ÉGYPTE, IIIE PÉRIODE INTERMÉDIAIRE-XXVI DYNASTIE, CIRCA 1069-525 AV. J.-C.
AN EGYPTIAN PAINTED WOOD COFFIN, THIRD INTERMEDIATE PERIOD-26TH DYNASTY, CIRCA 1069-525 B.C., of typical anthropomorphic form, the large eyes outlined in black, wearing a striped tripartite wig and elaborate broad beaded collar, below which kneels the winged goddess Nut, with two wedjat eyes and a ram-headed deity above, two central vertical columns of text mostly unintelligible, the name of the owner appearing to read: 'Men Son of Men', the mother's name lost, the text flanked by panels containing the Sons of Horus and other funerary deities, details painted in red, black, green and ochre, the exterior of the coffin base decorated with a standing winged goddess, 170cm high, 60cm wide, 47cm deep
