Otto Scholderer made several trips to Paris between 1857 - 58. It is known that at this time he upheld a close friendship with Henri Fantin-Latour, who immortalised Scholderer in his famous work "Un atelier aux Batignolles". Scholderer's late work "Still Life with Pears and a Wineglass" is reminiscent of the influence of his French companion in its calm composition and the concentration on a few simple objects.
