SELTENES UND BEEINDRUCKENDES OKIMONO EINES ARHAT AUF DRACHEN. Japan. Meiji-Zeit. Um 1900. Aus einem großen Stück Elfenbein äußerst fein und detailreich geschnitzt. Kleiner natürlicher Kanal unter dem Boden verschlossen. Der als alter Mann mit gelockten Haaren und Bart dargestellte Arhat blickt nach unten zu dem Drachen, auf dessen Leib er zwischen hohen Gischtwogen steht. Er ist in eine weite Robe mit schwingenden Ärmeln gekleidet mit aufwendigem, feingliedrigem Perlenschmuck an Brust und Hüfte. In der Rechten hält er eine Pagode mit einer winzigen Darstellung des Amida raigo - Buddha Amitabha in Begleitung zweier Bodhisattva auf Wolken reisend. In dem okimono wurden die Attribute zweier Arhat vermischt - der Drache gehört zu Hantaka (Panthaka), die Pagode dagegen zu Ragora (Rahula). Ungewöhnlich ist ebenfalls die Darstellung des Amida raigo im Inneren der Pagode Der Perlenschmuck, wie auch die Gischwogen, das Antiltz des Arhat und des Drachens, aber auch die Stupa mit Amida raigo sind mit minutiösen Details und äußerst lebendig geschnitzt. Insgesamt handelt es sich um eine meisterhaftes Kunstwerk, nicht nur in handwerklicher Hinsicht. Höhe 46cm. Sign.: Ôno Hakujitsu, auf der Rückseite der Plinthe signiert und Siegel. Zustand B. The Arhat shown as an old man with curly hair and beard, looking down at the dragon, on whose body he is supported between high spray-waves. He is clad in a wide robe with swinging sleeves and wears elaborate, delicate pearl jewelry on his chest and hip. In his right hand he holds a pagoda with a tiny representation of Amida raigo - Buddha Amitabha accompanied by two Bodhisattva traveling on clouds. In this okimono the attributes of two Arhat are present - the dragon of Hantaka (Panthaka) and the pagoda of Ragora (Rahula). Unique is the depiction of Amida raigo inside the pagoda. The pearl jewelry, as well as the spray-wave, his face and the dragon as well as the stupa and the depiction inside are carved with meticulous detail and extremely livelike.
