Le bras gauche, levé, tient une torche dressée vers le haut — attribut distinctif de Cautes, par opposition à Cautopates qui porte sa torche abaissée. La chevelure bouclée s'échappe sous la coiffe. Le visage, tourné vers la droite, présente des traits juvéniles idéalisés. Sur la base, en lettres capitales : HYMNUS INBICTO Soit « Hymnus [a dédié ceci] à l'Invincible » — formule votive classique désignant Sol Invictus ou Mithra lui-même, les deux divinités étant étroitement associées dans le culte. Dans l'iconographie mithriaque, Cautes et Cautopates encadrent systématiquement la scène centrale de la tauroctonie (Mithra sacrifiant le taureau). Ces deux figures jumelles, toujours vêtues à la mode perse, incarnent des principes cosmiques complémentaires. Ensemble, ils symbolisent le cycle solaire et cosmique au cœur des mystères mithriaques. Certains chercheurs y voient également une représentation des nœuds ascendant et descendant de l'orbite lunaire, en lien avec les éclipses. Cette statuette ornait vraisemblablement un mithraeum (sanctuaire souterrain), où elle flanquait l'image cultuelle principale. The raised left arm holds a torch pointing upward—the distinctive attribute of Cautes, as opposed to Cautopates who carries his torch lowered. Curly hair escapes from beneath the cap. The face, turned to the right, displays idealised youthful features. On the base, in capital letters: HYMNUS INBICTO Meaning "Hymnus [dedicated this] to the Invincible"—a classic votive formula referring to Sol Invictus or Mithras himself, both deities being closely associated in the cult.
