He is recognized in the Kagyu lineages for synthesizing core Buddhist teachings into pith instructions. Compare the unusually upturned lotus base on which Tilopa sits upon to a Kagyu portrait published in Hollywood Galleries, Hong Kong, May 2019, no. 7, possibly indicating that the present lot was affixed to a larger support.
