Ulm um 1500 Hl. Sebastian Lindenholz, dreiviertelrund geschnitzt, auf der Rückseite abgeflacht und tief ausgehöhlt. Ältere farbige Fassung, in Teilen übergangen. Qualitätvolle Skulptur des im Kontrapost stehenden und leicht nach rechts gewandten Heiligen. Sein lebendig gestaltetes Gesicht wird von langen und unterschnitten geschnitzten Haaren gerahmt, die unter der breiten Hutkrempe hervorquellen. Sein nackter Körper ist nur von einem Lendentuch bekleidet, der Heilige ist jedoch zudem in ein bodenlanges und ebenfalls teilweise unterschnittenes Gewand gehüllt, das mit seinen schwingenden Säumen, den hohen Stegfalten und den wulstigen Stauchfalten die große plastische Wirkung bestimmt. Die Skulptur ist in den Umkreis des in Ulm tätigen Bildschnitzers Niklaus Weckmann zu setzen. Pfeile ergänzt. Kleiner Ausbruch auf der rechten Seite der Plinthe. Bestoßungen mit Verlusten an der farbigen Fassung. Höhe 91 cm. Provenienz Rheinische Privatsammlung. An Ulm carved limewood figure of St. Sebastian, circa 1500. Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and deeply hollowed out. With partially overpainted older polychromy. A finely carved depiction of the saint standing in contrapposto and turned slightly to the right. His lively features are framed by long and deeply undercut curls emerging from beneath a broad brimmed hat. The saint is clothed in a perizonium, but also wears a long cloak drawn about his lower body which falls in an angular scheme of drapery and gathers about his feet in heavy folds. The work can be attributed to the circle of the Ulm sculptor Niklaus Weckmann. The arrows replaced. A small loss to the right side of the plinth. Wear with losses to the polychromy. Height 91 cm.
