Wohl Nordfrankreich 1. Hälfte 15. Jahrhundert Madonna mit Kind Sandstein, vollrund bearbeitet, auf der Rückseite teilweise nur kursorisch durchgeführt und im unteren Bereich geringfügig abgeflacht. Einheitliche ältere farbige Fassung. Auf Vorderansicht gestaltete in maßvollem Kontrapost stehende bekrönte Muttergottes, die das nur mit einem Tuch bekleidete Jesuskind mit ihrer rechten Hand seitlich über ihrer Hüfte trägt und ihm im Typus der Maria Lactans die Brust reicht. Maria trägt ein rotes bodenlanges Kleid und einen vor dem Körper gerafften blauen Umhang, die mit Streublumen geschmückt sind. Die Skulptur zeichnet sich besonders durch die detaillierte und stark plastische Gestaltung der Gewänder aus, wobei die teilweise flächig vom Mantel bedeckten kräftigen Stegfalten des Untergewandes von den seitlichen Faltenkaskaden des Mantels flankiert werden. Bestoßungen mit geringfügigen Verlusten an den Mantelsäumen und der Plinthe. Höhe 73 cm. Provenienz Westfälischer Privatbesitz. A carved sandstone figure of the Virgin and Child, probably Northern France, first half 15th century Carved in the round, the reverse only summarily worked, the lower section slightly flattened. With regularly applied older polychromy. A figure of the crowned Virgin Mary standing in a gently swaying pose designed for a frontal viewpoint. She carries the Christ Child wrapped in a cloth in Her right arm over Her hip, offering Her breast in the manner of the Maria Lactans. The Virgin wears a floor length red gown and a blue cloak which She holds wrapped across Her body, both garments are decorated with a floral pattern. The figure is characterised by the detailed and sculptural treatment of the drapery, whereby the vertical pleats of the lower garment are partially concealed by and flanked on either side by the cascading folds of the Virgin's cloak.
