A rare pair of Dutch Delft plaques, dated 1726 Of rectangular shape with inverted corners, each with an ogee crest, the raised centre with a print scene after Frederick Bloemaert, the borders reserved with four floral cartouches, signed on the reverse "MB" 26cm long x 23.4cm wide, both signed "MB 5 oct = 1726," (one broken and restored) (2) Literature Aronson, R., Lambooy, S.M.R., Dutch Delftware, Plaques: a Blueprint of Delft, 2008/2009, p. 24f., cat. 6 The print sources for these plaques are The Peasant Family (circa 17th century) and Resting young farmer, both by Frederick Bloemaert, (Utrecht 1610-1669), after the work of his father, Abraham Bloemaert (circa 1565-1651). Abraham Bloemaert's oevre of surviving drawings consisted not only of finished drawings, but also simple studies and sketches used in his atelier by his pupils and workshop. Frederick Bloemaert made prints from his fathers' drawings and the resulting artist's manual of prints was entitled the Tekenboek (Drawing Book), and was a popular source throughout the 17th and 18th century. The graphic sources travelled the world, and were also used for Chine de Commande. The shapes of these plaques, with their integrated frames, exist in different variations, many of them dated examples, between 1722 and 26. The initials MB have not been identified.
