Beautiful engraved glass jar, attributed to Christian Gottfried Schneider, Silesia, Warmbrunn, circa 1740 A fine Silesian engraved goblet and cover attributed to Christian Gottfried Schneider, Warmbrunn, circa 1740 In the rock crystal tradition, the faceted ogee bowl finely decorated all around with an extensive country estate, the grand house before a formal garden with a fountain and statues upon plinths, the reverse with a gated entrance flanked by balustrades and plants, leading to another formal garden enclosed by colonnades, the sides with further gates, fountains and baskets of flowers, the base of the bowl with gadroons with panels of flowers and scrollwork alternating with vignettes depicting a ship at sea, a stag hunt, an urn on a pedestal and a building in a landscape respectively, set on a seven-sided faceted baluster stem between collars, the wide circular foot with an engraved foliate scroll border and a |0|0| pattern rosette underneath, the faceted domed cover with a gatehouse, further arches and balustrades lined with trees, with a faceted finial, 28.5cm high (2) The quality and detail of the engraving on this goblet can only be the work of a master engraver such as Christian Gottfried Schneider. Goblets of similar quality by Schneider engraved with harbour scenes which include comparable stately buildings were sold by Bonhams as part of the Klaus Biemann Collection on 26 November 2014, lot 33.
