Robaut, L'oeuvre de Corot, catalogue raisonné illustré, Paris, 1965, Vol. III, p. 248, no. 2005 Exhibited Lille, 1881, no. 1386 The present lot began as an outdoor study; Robaut captured this study. When Corot returned to his studio, he added a few extra trees and two more figures next to the peasant. Ch. Desavary took the picture of the first state of the picture, which is now illustrated in Robaut.
