Michael Schumacher qualified in 3rd place behind Damon Hill and David Coulthard. Sundays race brought new opportunities and a slick pitstop by his team positioned Schumacher well for the middle stint of the race. After pitting on lap 38 he began lapping quickest of all and closing the gap in to the front runners. After his final pit stop he was in the lead and pulling away to his eighth victory of the season.
