146. A Meissen circular dish, circa 1755-60
Painted with a landscape vignette in the well depicting a bear in front of a fir tree, and a floral border around the wavy, brown-edged rim, 21.8cm across, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, impressed "20" (small restored flat chip and short haircrack to rim)
Part of a service of which 58 pieces were sold by Christie's London, 28 November 1977, lots 88-119. According to the catalogue, these were formerly in the possession of Paula de Koenigsberg in Buenos Aires, who purchased them from the estate of William Randolph Hearst, who in turn received the porcelain as a gift from the German National Socialist government in the 1930s. A plate from the service was sold from the Hoffmeister Collection at Bonhams London, 24 November 2010, lot 62.
