148. A Meissen white figure of a Cuirassier on horseback, circa 1937-48 The Cuirassier seated on a rampant horse, saluting with his right hand, 47cm high, crossed swords mark and 'Weiss' impressed to the base, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue below that, the base again with impressed crossed swords and 'Weiss' and impressed A1268, former number 150 (small chip to the base of the rim) Probably modelled by Scheurich in 1936; in an amusing drawing in a friend's guestbook of February 1937, Scheurich depicts himself as the cuirassier on horseback (Johannes Rafael, Paul Scheurich 1883-1945 Porzellane für die Meissener Manufaktur, Meissener Manuskripte, Sonderband VIII, 1995, ill. 55.1). The manufactory purchased the model early in 1937; it was produced in porcelain from May and several were sold the same year. It was exhibited the following year at the Hetjens-Museum, among others, and a total of 31 sales are recorded by 1956. Another example was in the collection of Prof. J. Rafael and was sold in these rooms, 14 April 2022, lot 116.
