A Dewa Tachi in Bird's Head Mounts
Muromachi period (1333-1573), 16th century
Honzukuri, iorimune, chūkissaki, toriizori forged in itame and ayasugi hada with a notare hamon, the tang signed Gassan Mitsunaga; the koshira-e comprising a gold nashiji saya fitted with gilt-silver mounts chiseled with scrolling vines, the tsuka wrapped in white same and applied with gilt-metal bosses formed as rice bales and menuki formed as dragons, the end mounted with a fabulous bird's head
