Lot no. 69
1515 ? (Anonymous). LES JOURS HEUREUX ET PERILLEUX DE L'ANNEE REVELE PAR L'ANGE AU BON SAINCT JOB.
Without place, name or date (Lyon, Arnoullet, Chaussard, 1515?).
In-12 gothic folio of 4 leaves, 21 lines per page, burgundy morocco (Laurenchet).
Amusing popular prophecies which tell the reader the "perilous days esquels ne fauct riens bon commencer" for each month.
For example, Pierre Bonnart, a native of Burgundy, went to see his friend Guyot on Saint Agatha's Day and saw a braid of onions in his house, wanted to eat some, climbed a ladder, fell backwards and broke his neck!
This very rare copy is illustrated with 2 folk woodcuts, one on the title showing the Angel and Job and another on the verso of the last leaf showing a king seated on his throne. Baudrier mentions 2 copies but with different numbers of lines or woodcuts (USTC, 31339 ?, 1 copy).
