152. A Meissen cylindrical box and cover, circa 1937-48
Modelled by Paul Scheurich, of cylindrical shape, the finial in the shape of a spaniel with a red bow tied around its neck, 9.8cm diam.; 11cm high, crosssed swords mark in underglaze-blue with three incised cancellation marks to base (2)
Scheurich received RM 75 for the design which he sold to the manufactory in 1937, who started producing it in porcelain that same year. An example was exhibited at the Hetjens-Museum, Düsseldorf, in 1938. By the end of 1951 twenty-three decorated and ten white examples had been sold (Johannes Rafael, Paul Scheurich 1883-1945 Porzellane für die Meissener Manufaktur, Meissener Manuskripte, Sonderband VIII, 1995, p. 130).
