152. UNPŌ KANEMITSU (ACTIVE CIRCA 1854)
An Izumo Tantō with Mounts
Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century
Of unokubizukuri configuration forged in itamehada with a gunome midare temper line, the tang with one hole and signed Myōichi Nyudō Kanemitsu, in a wood shirasaya storage scabbard; the koshira-e comprising a saya lacquered in imitation of cherry bark, the tsuka wrapped in white silk and mounted with gilt-metal fittings including fuchigashira, menuki, and kozuka, all finished in nanako and chiseled with dragons in clouds, the iron tsuba with gold overlay with scrolling vines and paulownia blossoms
