(1522). KETHAM (Joannes de). FASCICULO DE MEDICINA. COLLECTORIO UNIVERSALISSIMO CHIAMADO FASCICULO DE MEDICINA... Venice, César Arrivabene, 1522. Small folio of [4]-64 (of 65) leaves, half Russian lavaliere leather, spine ribbed (19th century binding). ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT MEDICAL WORKS OF THE 15TH CENTURY AND THE FIRST ILLUSTRATED MEDICAL BOOK. The Italian text is printed on 2 columns and its illustration is one of the masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance, the woodwork being similar to that of the Dream of Poliphilo; it is quite possible that they are by the same artist. These large panels depict Montagnana as a student, a consultation scene, urine vases, man and his venous system, zodiacal man, man with different wounds, men with the locations of different diseases, scene of the plague victim with the doctor putting camphor under his nose, dissection scene. The woodcut showing a seated woman with her stomach open (folio 24) is missing. Some marginal handwritten annotations, good condition inside. (USTC, 837019).
