Lot no. 193
(1541). HOURS OF THE VIRGIN. HORAE IN LAUDEM BEATISSIMAE VIRGINIS MARIAE AD USUM ROMANUM.
Paris, Olivier Maillard, 1541.
In-12 of 176 unnumbered leaves (A-Y8), stiff ivory vellum, smooth spine (contemporary binding).
Beautiful book of hours printed in round red and black letters, decorated on each page with various borders with flowers, fruit, animals, etc... The volume is decorated with NINE FULL-PAGE FIGURES, all of which, with the exception of one smaller one, come from the workshop of Geoffroy Tory, whose successor Olivier Maillard was. Some are arranged in pairs, facing each other, a process used by Tory in his heyday. Old restoration on the spine, a very good copy. (Brunet V, 1660) (USTC 140204, 4 ex. wrong coll.).
