First edition of the Latin translation and scholarly commentary by Jerome Wolf (1516-1580), librarian to the famous banker Fugger. SUPERB, EXTREMELY ELEGANT PAINTED BINDINGS, produced between 1549 and 1551 for Thomas Wotton by one of the greatest Parisian workshops of the mid-16th century. The copy, entirely ruled in red ink, comes from the Charles Van der Elst library, with ex-libris, and is preserved in a modern red morocco box decorated with gilt fillets indicating in large gilt characters that it belonged to Mary Stuart.
