(1557). DARIOT (Claude). AD ASTRORUM IUDICIA FACILIS INTRODUCTIO. Ejusdem Tractatus de Electionibus Principiorum idoneorum rebus...
Lyon, Maurice Roy and Louis Pesnot, 1557.
In-4° of [6]-120 pages, soft vellum (contemporary binding).
Uncommon first edition, complete with the 3 volvelles and their loose parts. Claude Dariot (1533-1594), a physicist born in Beaune, set out the general principles of astrology and the rules of solar astrology with the influence of the planets on daily earthly events.
His treatise contained innovative approaches for the time: Dariot added the 3 alchemical principles (Mercury, Sulphur and Salt) to the 4 traditional elements (Water, Air, Fire and Earth). According to him, these 3 principles form the basis of all beings!
At the time of printing, the book had a sheet on which were indicated the instructions for assembling the scrolls and another with the uncut moving parts; in this copy, the instructions have fortunately been preserved and glued at the bottom of page 11 with the 3 scrolls assembled and effective. Light marginal rings. Ex-libris Harrison D. Horblit (Mortimer n°165) (Baudrier IV, 308) (USTC 152198).
