Guy de Chauliac is considered to be the founder of modern surgery in Europe; it was in Avignon, where he was physician to the Popes, that he composed his masterpiece in 1363. This rare edition is enlarged and corrected by Maistre Jean Canappe, physician attached to François 1st. Tear at edge of one leaf affecting a few words, title soiled, scattered spotting and a few handwritten annotations from the period (USTC 73804, 1 ex.) (not in Adams).
