(1573). ESTIENNE (Robert). THESAURUS LINGUAE LATINAE. Lyon, (Compagnie des libraires), 1573. 4 volumes in-folio of [12]-1362-[4]-752-[4]-449-[34] pages, wooden boards covered with cold-stamped fawn calf, broad frames with full irons and fleurons, multiple fillets and scrolls, central lozenge with gilt medallion and coat of arms with red wax band charged with three gold crescents, the whole surrounded by the motto: Non auro sed ferro, metal reinforcements, traces of clasps, (period binding). The annotations and notes by Henri Estienne, Robert's son, first appeared in this fourth edition, published at the expense of the large company of booksellers in Lyon. They were later included in the Basel edition of the 18th century. EXEMPLAIRE WITH THE ARMS OF THE VAN DEN DAELE FAMILY of Flanders-Brabant enriched with proofs of the portrait of Alvarus Nonius, an Antwerp physician, engraved by J. Wierix, in 1586, pasted on the endpapers opposite the 4 titles. From the library of Sir Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun (1653-1716), a great Scottish patriot and one of Britain's most eminent bibliophiles, with his autograph signature on the titles. Some foxing and traces of dampstaining. Corners of the leaves paginated 1145-1148 of the second volume cut, without touching the text. Significant restorations to the spines.
