Lot no. 158
158. VAN CLEEF & ARPELS: PAIR OF 'HERITAGE PELOUSE' RUBY AND DIAMOND EAR CLIPS, CIRCA 1965 Each of domed form, set throughout with lines of round-cut rubies and brilliant-cut diamonds, signed VAN CLEEF & ARPELS, numbered, French hallmarks for 18K gold (750 ‰) and platinum (850 ‰), poinçon de maître for Péry & Fils, size 2.60 x 1.50 cm, total gross weight 27.85 g, accompanied by a signed Van Cleef & Arpels pouch. Between the 1960s and 1970s, Van Cleef & Arpels created pieces of fine jewellery that reflected the free spirit and daring style of the period. Domed shapes, sculpted textures and vibrant colours became the signature of a house in the throes of creative effervescence. During their travels in Asia, the Arpels brothers immersed themselves in new inspirations: luxuriant floral motifs, gadrooned volumes and refined bestiary enriched the House's ornamental vocabulary. It was against this backdrop that the "Pelouse" collection was born, and today it is highly sought-after by collectors. The ear clips in this line are distinguished by their organic texture, evoking a stylised plant carpet, set with brilliantly coloured precious stones and enhanced by a line of diamonds, all carefully selected for their exceptional quality. A comparable example from the "Pelouse" collection is illustrated in: - Evelyne Possémé, Van Cleef & Arpels - The Art of High Jewelry, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, 2012, p. 183
