Paris, Matthieu Guillemot, 1600. In-4° of [19]-1bl.-154-[6] leaves, marbled calf, Renaissance iron in the centre of the boards, gilt fillet on spine (contemporary binding). Edition illustrated with a title-frontispiece entirely engraved in intaglio, with complicated allegories on an azure ground and 181 WOOD ENGRAVINGS executed after the drawings of Jean Cousin in the first French edition of 1546, with the exception of three of them, which have been redone for the occasion. The Priape and Ityphalle plates are intact. This edition, not indicated by Mortimer, is decorated with the crowns of Louis XII and contains a woodcut on the front of folio 122 (Hh2). Modern spine and marks on the boards, title trimmed short, minor restorations to the corner of the title and to a few leaves, minor spotting, a pleasant copy. Pages 95 and 96 are duplicates with slight differences. From the library of Dr. Louis Moret with bookplate dated 1903 (Tchémerzine I, 675) (Brunet IV, 779) (Mortimer, French n°148).
