Lot no. 17
In folio of [8]-113-3bl. pages and 31 double plates, brown calf, spine ribbed and decorated (contemporary binding). La Manière de bien Bastir is intended as a model for urban houses and is the first treatise to focus on domestic comfort. Pierre le Muet (1591-1669) studied the surface area and distribution of rooms, as well as the placement and orientation of windows, because "in the construction of any building, attention must be paid to the duration, ease or convenience, beautiful order and health of the flats". The illustrations consist of an engraved title, 51 full-page plates and 31 single, double or fold-out plates devoted to the architect's finest achievements, from the Hôtel Tubeuf to the Château de Pontz, the Château de Tanlay and the Hostel Davaux in Paris. A total of 84 plates. Gallery in the margins of a few leaves, edges of the plates soiled, one spine split.
