Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (Montauban 1780-1867 Paris) Drawing from a 15th century Italian faience bowl depicting a woman giving birth bears an inscription 'Ingres Del. d'après une faïence du XVe siècle' (top centre) and another erased inscription (top centre) black stone, pen and brown ink, watercolour and white highlights on paper bears a signature 'Ingres Del. d'après une faïence du XVe siècle' (upper centre) and another indistinct inscription (upper centre) black chalk, pen and brown ink, watercolors, hightened with white on paper 25.1 x 20.1cm (9 7/8 x 7 15/16in). Provenance E. F. Haro (1827-1897) (L. 1241), who purchased it directly from the artist his sale, 6-7 May 1867, no 90 (as Facsimile of a 15th century Italian Faience)
