A LACQUER CHIGAIDANA (SET OF SHELVES FOR DISPLAY) Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Constructed of lacquered wood and comprising four drawers, one cupboard with hinged doors, and another with sliding doors decorated in gold, silver, and red hiramaki-e and takamaki-e and embellishments of hirame and nashiji against a black ground with floral roundels and scattered maple leaves, the sliding doors decorated with scenes from Genji monogatari (The Tale of Genji), the hinged doors lacquered to resemble woven bamboo, the interiors gold nashiji, with silvered metal hardware 30 x 31,5 x 16cm
