18. 18AR ISABELLE DE BORCHGRAVE(1946-2024) Frida's pastels Signature stamp Sculpture in cardboard, gouache and paper 28 x 35.5 x 8 cm Frida Kahlo's box of pastels is a veritable ode to illusion and trompe l'oeil. All the elements are made of paper. It was shown at the Miradas de Mujeres exhibition at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts and the Naples Museum of Art in Florida. The creation of this box for the exhibition is not a trivial matter. With this gesture, the artist affixed her signature, placing the box like an imprint in the setting. Frida didn't really make pastels, whereas Isabelle de Borchgrave had made them one of her main working tools. In this way, she slipped into the majestic setting of the exhibition, in full view of everyone, like a shadow conversing with Frida.
