Historical context Taken by James McDivitt with the Hasselblad Super Wide camera and its wide-angle 38mm lens from the rendezvous window of LM Spider docked to CSM Gumdrop, this exceptionally rare photograph shows David Scott as he partially emerged for a stand-up EVA in the hatch of the orbiting Gumdrop, remaining tethered to the spacecraft via a life-support umbilical system. A 16mm DAC camera can be seen mounted to the hatch to Scott's left. The awe-inspiring limb of Earth at sunset is just visible to the left of Gumdrop. David Scott performed another stand-up EVA on Apollo 15 but this time on the surface of the Moon when he opened the top hatch of the LM to observe the lunar landscape after landing.
