- Based in Lyon, Rochet-Schneider was one of the very first French car manufacturers, its first models appearing in 1894, shortly after Benz and Peugeot. In the early 100s, Rochet-Schneider established itself as a top-of-the-range manufacturer, producing cars similar to Panhard and Mercedes.
- After a short period of turbulence, the factory returned to prosperity around 1910, thanks in particular to the manufacture of Zenith carburettors designed by its then Managing Director, and the launch of a new, very extensive range. President Raymond Poincaré acquired a Rochet-Schneider to carry out the official duties of his office.
- The 11000 model, featuring a 2.6-litre 4-cylinder single-cylinder engine, was launched in early 1912, receiving approval from the Service des Mines in February of that year. It was produced until the end of 1914.
- The sublime torpedo that illustrates these pages was probably produced between late 1912 and early 1913. A registration document dated 31 July 1913 (drawn up in Angoulême) still accompanies it, while the old registration document in the name of Georges Goffoz seems to indicate that he acquired it in 1976 in the Loire.
- Rochet-Schneiders are rare, and this 100% original torpedo, with its over one hundred year old leather and very attractive bodywork, is an incredible example of this Lyon-based company. It will delight antique enthusiasts looking for unquestionable authenticity...
