Lot no. 220
Austrian title Chassis n° PB0330 - Eligible for the most prestigious events - Nice presentation - 479 examples built. An evolution of the J2 model, the MG PB was distinguished by its larger engine with three bearings, and shorter gear ratios than the PA version. This lovely, efficient roadster, powered by an overhead cam engine, enjoyed success in prestigious competitions such as the 1937 Le Mans 24 Hours (16th overall) and the Mille Miglia. The example presented has benefitted from a full, high quality restoration carried out between 1989 and 1991, documented in the file of photos and corroborated by the lovely, lightly patinated and well-conserved condition it is in today. During the restoration, the original engine block had to be replaced, and given its rarity, a PA block (847cc) rebuilt with PB parts was fitted. The current owner bought the car in 2014 and since then has driven and maintained his MG regularly. A water pump and extra fan have been fitted for ease of use in today's traffic conditions. With the typical looks of a 1930s British roadster, the PB's lively engine and modest weight give it an impressive performance. Eligible today for the biggest international historic events, this rare example will appeal to the gentleman driver, for use on the road or the track. Photos © Moritz Schell
