1938 Peugeot 402 Éclipse "coupé-cabriolet transformable" Carte grise française Châssis n° 272535 Fabrication n°477 - Modèle exceptionnel et très rare - État superbe, travaux récents - Ligne d'une grande élégance pour un concept novateur La 402 Éclipse est une voiture exceptionnelle car elle appartient à la lignée de Peugeot qui a adopté pour la première fois au monde un système de toit escamotable dans le coffre, ce qui transformait un coupé à toit rigide en cabriolet découvert, grâce à un mécanisme actionné par une manivelle. Après les premières versions artisanales, produites dès 1934 dans les ateliers Pourtout sur un dessin de Georges Paulin pour le compte des clients d'Émile Darl'Mat, Peugeot a décidé de lancer son propre modèle, sur la base des 401, puis 402. C'est cette dernière version, la plus évoluée, que nous proposons à la vente. Il s'agit d'une version ET5 à roues Pilote, qui n'a été produite qu'à 27 exemplaires, la plus rare des versions. Achetée neuve en novembre 1938 par un médecin niçois, elle présentait un badge original de l'Automobile Club de Monaco et, dans les années 1990, elle est partie aux États-Unis. Elle y est restée une dizaine d'années, participant à plusieurs concours d'élégance avant de revenir dans sa patrie d'origine. Elle fut acquise par le propriétaire actuel, un important collectionneur français, en 2016. Ce dernier, amoureux des voitures des années 1930, et, possesseur d'une Atalante, s'est laissé séduire par sa ligne époustouflante. En 2018, elle a fait l'objet d'une révision mécanique complète ainsi que du mécanisme de toit. Etant particulièrement exigeant sur l'état de ses voitures, notre collectionneur a fait refaire à de hauts standards : la peinture, la sellerie et la moquette, pour un meilleur confort de conduite, une boîte Cotal a pris la place de la boîte mécanique, comme certaines Peugeot en étaient équipées. La boîte d'origine sera livrée avec la voiture. Aujourd'hui, le compteur affiche 08 909 km et elle est équipée d'enjoliveurs de carrosserie en bon état, dont certains de marques Robri. Sa ligne étonnante, avec son arrière long et effilé, se combine à un habitacle spacieux, un état superbe et un système d'ouverture de toit précurseur pour faire de cette Peugeot 402 une pièce aussi exceptionnelle que rare accompagnée de son certificat Peugeot. French title Chassis n° 272535 Fabrication n°477 - Exceptional and very rare model - Superb condition, recent work - Elegant styling and innovative design The 402 Éclipse is an exceptional car, belonging to the Peugeot models that adopted, for the first time anywhere, a system allowing the roof to fold into the boot, transforming a hard-top coupé into an open-top cabriolet, using a hand-operated mechanism. After the first few artisanal versions were built in the Pourtout workshops to a design by Georges Paulin for clients of Émile Darl'Mat, Peugeot decided to launch its own model, on the base of the 401, and later the 402. It is this later and more advanced version that is presented in the sale. It is an ET5 version with Pilote wheels, of which just 27 examples were built. Bought new in November 1938 by a doctor from Nice, it sported an original Automobile Club de Monaco badge and during the 1990s, it left for the States. The car stayed in America for about ten years, participating in several concours events before returning home to France. It was acquired by the current owner, an important French collector, in 2016. An enthusiast of 1930s cars who already owned an Atalante, he was taken in by the breathtaking styling of this Éclipse. In 2018, the car had a full mechanical overhaul, including the roof mechanism. Being very particular about the condition of his cars, our collector had the paintwork redone, along with the upholstery and carpets, all to the highest standards. To improve the drive, the manual gearbox was replaced with a Cotal box, like those fitted in certain Peugeot. The original box will be delivered with the car. Today, the odometer reads 08 909 km and the car comes with bodywork elements in good condition, some of which have been made by Robri. Featuring a long, tapered rear, the extraordinary styling of this car, together with the spacious passenger compartment, the pioneering retractable roof system and its superb condition make this Peugeot 402 a rare and exceptional vehicle, offered with its Peugeot certificate.
